Exploring drawing and painting centers

"The essential goal of art teaching is to inspire children to behave like artists...to feel what it is to gather an art idea on one's own and act on it...to reveal to children that art comes from within themselves, not from the teacher ." George Szekely This quote supports students in their own process of discovery and inquiry based learning. Students will get to explore various genres and mediums in art surrounded by a theme like imagination or seasons. They create art that shows the theme using various materials they have been introduced to throughout the year. Students get to share their work and get positive feedback from their peers. This approach to learning meets the child where they are at developmentally and gives them confidence in their abilities. You may notice artwork coming home as students explore various centers. Here are some questions you may ask your child about their artwork: Why did you make it? How did you make it? Where

Art room videos-Painting center

This year I am experimenting with some new technology that has been a game changer. I am now video taping my mini lessons using an iPad and then I upload them onto iPhoto and make a slideshow. I've also used iMovie and Animoto to make videos too. I plan on doing this when I open up each center. That way I can show these videos to kids to were absent or who come to Hollymead later on in the year. This video was made using iPhoto slideshow.
